Our latest school projects

A sneak peek into our latest school project that the kids at Thandi House (and I) are really enjoying. The project developed from simply researching the difference between invertebrates, vertebrates and the classification of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians, to an exciting in-depth investigation into each classification. Each species will have a printed "fact card" that is placed where they live (Ice/snow, ocean, forest etc.). But before the fact card is placed in its home environment, we take part in extensive research at each kids level. Meaning all our children can take part regardless of age or ability, using different materials such as touch (more focused on our CP/Wheelchair children), art and crafts, visual (YouTube or pictures), storytelling, real-life experience (I see a visit to Ushaka aquarium coming mid-year) and much more.

This will take up most of 2020 and I look forward to sharing the completed project with you. Tomorrow we looking into the Colossal Squid (which is bigger than the Giant Squid and is the size of a BUS!). Did you know a Colossal Squid has the largest eyeballs than any other animal, measuring around 27 cm across!!!! This is truly enriching the children with not only knowledge - but joy and anticipation as we explore, making learning FUN! A special thanks to Bundu NetworX who provides us with donated internet that allows us to research each species and watch the abundant amount of YouTube videos and print worksheets or material on each. Our children are lucky to have individualized and child-specific education based on where each child is in their mental and emotional development.
